chicago tap

Anyone from Chicago,
I was wondering if anyone knew how bad or good Chicago tap water is. I've recently been cut off from my RO water, and decided to use decholorinated tap water.
I read on here that the Shedd uses tap water, but of course, they also have ridiculous filtration units that I don't have.
I have a nano that only uses a regular filter. Corals and fish seem to be doing just fine, but algae seems to be growing at a faster rate.
Any info would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Give the city a call...they're obligated to tell you just what or what isn't in your tap water. :D

City of Chicago water (tested at their facilities) treated to remove chlorine is fairly safe to use in a tank. BUT the city has no control over what plumbing the water runs through at your residence. Depending on the age and type of plumbing, alot of things could be introduced into your water. This factor alone was enough to convince me to buy a RO/DI unit. These are so cheap on ---- nowadays that they should be conisidered mandatory for reefkeeping.

i have been using Chicago tap water for two years. (29 gal tank)
i heard that the chicago tap water is fine for drinking, but i still use my old hang-on filter to run the tap water a day or two before i put them in my main tank.

As long as you know the condition of the water in your city it should be okay but you should always run the water through some filters like carbon before you put it in your tank.
