choc. chip star...questions regarding them

I see them in alot of members tanks, is there a down fall to them if added to a FOWLR tank? since they can be fed (unlike sand sifters) are they ok? what isnt safe for them and what will they kill off (inverts) how do you like yours?

I had one a yaear and a half ago, he was cool, my tank was fowlr too. I had no problems at all with him. Well copper of course isnt good for them. Mine didnt bother my inverts in the least.

glad to hear it... we wouldnt be using copper anyway, its not safe for the stingray.

anyone else?

look into a red general starfish...they are pretty much the same as a chocolate chip but they are much more colorful...i have one in my fowlr at home...if you are interested i could post pics tonight...

My choc. star has been in my tank for almost 3 years and has never bothered anyone. That includes my long spined urchine and more mushrooms than I care to count. On a few occassions I've seen my green serpent posted up right next to the choc.

I would love to see pictures. can you keep more than one species of starfish per tank? I would love that the choc. can be hand fed and wont starve on feeding on the tanks sand alone... (like with the sand sifters)

ive had mine for about 3 months for a star he moves alot and i put algea sheets in there for my fish and the star attaches him self to the algea it is a great addition to the tank and yea mine has no corals in it so i could answer if eats coral or not

i will post pics tonight if my internet is working at home...i hand feed my red general starfish all the time...

i'll try to post some pics if i can find my camera. i've had a choc. chip star and a green serpent star together since i started the tank.

here is my starfish in acclimation and the second is from today...sorry...i need to clean the power cord from my korallia...

Thank you very much...
i posted a thread with pics of him eating in this same forum if you would like to see more...but as you can see they are much more colorful then the chocolate chip and have about the same care requirments...
