Not reef safe, (feather duster safe, snail safe, or other starfish safe) learned from experience
But they are a good beginners starfish and easy to keep, eat deritus.

My harlequin shrimp likes the chocolate chip star real good. I gave him one that was 4 times bigger than the shrimp. He drug the starfish over some rocks and held onto him for 3 days munching. Then I stole the starfish back and threw him in the sump to regenerate the two missing limbs. Sounds kind of gory, but the harlequin is so neat it's worth it.

I agree also from experience. Chocolate chip bad. They eat everything. They are hard as hell to kill though.
