I was wondering what 1 chocolate chip star could do to a 72 gallon reef tank? Will it harm live rock?

My lfs has advised against getting ANY starfish for my tanks, though they DO sell them. They have warned against the chocolate chip star more than any other though. I've been told that most starfish hide for long periods of time and if they die and you don't notice right away, you could have problems.
I have a green brittle star in my 37 gal and he does just fine. He comes out every night and sometimes during the day. He ALWAYS comes out when he detects food in the water! I've had no problems with him at all. Good luck with whatever you choose!

I had one in my tank until it ate about 1/2 of my mushrooms and all my polyps.
Like I said, I HAD one!
