Even the worst LFS on the planet should have told you that when you purchased it.

Very correct, they are not. I don't think that I would have titled this post quite the way that you did though.

Like, really! What were you thinking?
I thought I was going to have to substitute raisins for chocolate chips in cookies. My kids would NOT have been amused.

HAHA!!!! I intended on defending CC stars and their requirements when I opened this post, only to find that it was introduced to a reef.
The OP was making sure it wouldn't starve.
Kudos for researching the dietary needs of your specimen.

Oh man my LFS suggested one for my tank! Good thing I knew sea stars are not for beginners...
I know the old one I used to go to when I was still living in California would sell just about anything to anyone, like most..but they always recommended stars for "cleaning up your sand and stuff"
To be honest, mine (when well fed) will keep my few soft corals alone. However, I only have a few and I do make sure I have food for him all the time. I have been known to nudge him elsewhere when he was headed to my corals.

thats how we ended up with ours many moons ago.
(before we did research when we bought something )
he plowed through a patch of mushrooms like it was filet mignon. He flipped snails over and sucked them up.
We had him for 4 years and then we were hit with an ice storm last year and we lost power for 5 days. I liked him becasue he was very busy in the tank.

Besides sw aquarists, who is happy when you buy something that almost literally eats your money and your hard work??
