Clam assaulted by peppermint shrimp

Soooo I did do some research online and spoke to several people at the lfs's and was told that peppermint shrimp are reef safe. I have had camelback shrimp in the past who ATE our candy cane coral. They died later from the bad husbandry practices of my bf whose tank I have taken over and upgraded. I noticed the live rock he gave me had aiptasia he thought they were good and was trying to keep them alive! So I read that copper banded butterfly's and peppermint shrimp were best to keep it at bay. I read and was told the butterfly's were hard to keep alive in captivity bc of their pickiness w food and that they might pick on my other soft corals, so I opted for the peppermints. I was told that peppermints do not attack soft corals like camel back shrimp. I am feeding homemade fish food so they are getting enough food and they attacked my soft coral clam and put a big hole in it by eating it! YES they ARE peppermints and not another type of shrimp of mistaken identity. So here's the questions, A. what do I need to do to try and keep the clam from dying, might be too late now not sure, I put it in the hatchery net holder and one of the damn

climbed on the bottom of the holder and poked his lil pincers through and ripped some more of the clam off on the bottom where the shell hinges and the clame looks all dark and flacid looking now and B. what corals can I keep without the peppermints molesting?
