is my clam gonna die? he has a big opening and i can see through the other side of it, but it closes the back when i go near it and the front stays open... any ideas? it looks like it is where the foot should be.
pics of what your talking about would help.
clams normally have 2 holes in the mantle, an intake and exhaust. this might be what your seeing, which would be normal. or it could be something more serious. again, pics would help.
(i just bought a new clam) i have recently put in my new nano tank looks like that exactly and i want to say it may be dying b/c i have a clam in my other tank if i even go by it when i'm cleaning my tank it will close for about 5 seconds.... what i'm trying to get at is your holding your clam and it's open corret me if i'm wrong but i think it should be closing /closed....
wow, i tried to register. their pic image is so hard to read.. i had to reload it a couple times.. and i can't tell it some letters and capped or not... like K or O stuff like that... and now it says i gotta wait 24 hrs before i can retry... lol, harsh
the opening in the bottom of the clam is normal. its called the byssal opening. this is where the clam sticks its "foot" out of. they can also use this slit to get rid of any sediment that has accumulated inside of the clam.
