Clam placement

after seeing many pics of tanks I've noticed that clams are always in a sand bed but some are placed flat down on it's side;; and others are with their openings facing the top ot the tank. Is their a proper way to place a clam on the sand bed. Is a clam like a anenome and will find it's own spot and position? Just curious because at some point I might try one.

Depends on the clam. Crocea's and Maxima's should be allowed to attach to rocks
