not all clams do. derasa clams are the lowest light demanding clams. but still need IMO LOTS of power compact or t5

they won't be happier with anything less than mh.

I had a maxima and a crocea under 330 watts of PCs on a 55 gal but never got growth like how my clams grow under MHs. I have a Gigga thats has grown about 2" in about 6 months.

I have2 crocea one under T5 lighting and one under MH and t5 combo, both are doing good.
