Clams... good or bad?

We have a fairly new 150 gal. aquarium. We have introduced new live rock recently and now we have about 8-10 little clams growing on a different rock. I realize that as you introduce things you have little critters that may come with them. My question is are the clams good or bad? The largest is about the size of a pinky nail. Thanks for the help!

We've had a few of these little clams as well as the odd mussel show up in our tanks. They're perfectly safe, and will even filter your water a bit.

Great! Thank you so much for the quick response. We have noticed that most of them are dead already. I guess something ate them... not sure! But I love the whole hitch-hiker thing!!! I just want to make sure everything is safe for the tank!!!

Yeah...it's always cool to see what crops up.
For future use, here's a pictorial hitchhiker ID guide. Just scroll down, find the pic of your critter, and get the ID, and whether it's a problem or not:

Thank You Saxman. We have also found a worm (too small to photograph and post) that we are trying to identify. I am sure this site will be very useful to us as we learn about all the ins and outs of aquariums!

You're welcome!
Get yourself a good magnifying glass...it will help a lot when viewing some of these critters.
