i don't even think cleaners are easy to take care of.
if you have the lights, you can do photosynthetic clams, but otherwise don't bother with em.

Thay sand sift you need a big tank thay need a lot of sand.
If you get them get small ones.
And if that die in your tank big ones are big trbl.
You will not see them aswell.

Actually, T. derasa does fine in lower light tanks (to a point, of course). Depending on the depth of the tank, you could even keep one with a good amount of PC lighting. This is also true of T. squamosa, T. gigas, and H. hipoppus.
You really do need MH for T. crocea
and anything but a gold T. maxima
.
Another thing that helps are regular feedings of live phytoplankton.

I have a crocea clam under VHO T5's and it's doing well, I've had it for around 4 months and I can see new growth on the shell.

I've kept a couple few maximas under T5HO lighting up really high in a 90g tank. The one thing that clams really need is frequent amounts of live phytoplankton to survive. By live - I mean pretty much aquacultured at home.
