Clarkii with deep splitting on fins...

No aggression in the tank... period.
Both of my Clarkii have been scraping against rocks lately... I was going to administer the hypo treatment this weekend (waiting for a refractometer).
Now the smaller Clarkii has some deep splits on his fins with dark discoloration at the tips. I just noticed this today. They are both feeding well, and still swimming with the same ammount of energy. Any thoughts on what the little guy has? And how to treat?

Do you see any ich at all?
You can go ahead and begin to lower the salinity, you don't need precision for that. It is best to lower over a 48 hr period. Just use the refract for the precise 1.009SG which you will be there already by the time you get the refract this weekend.
Also, feed your fish garlic soaked food. If there is a bacterial infection starting, the garlic could help. Start looking around for some antibiotics, though, just in case. Maracyn Two for SW fish, for instances, or nitrofurazone [Furacyn].

Yes, either Maracyn2 for SW fish or Furacyn. Also, offer quality and varied types of foods that are soaked in garlic.

I am at about 1.008 right now... It's kinda hard for me to keep a 3g at 1.009 ALL the time...
Is .008 - .010 safe? Or am I bound to fail?

I guess I am not clear on the differance... I thought I knew the differance... but now I am not sure how to measure salinity...
I got my refractometer... maybe I don't know how to work it yet... What is the chart on the right used for? If salinity... how?
Also... My PH is super low... my test kit goes to 7.4... I fear it may be lower. I have been using Kents Super Buffer... more than the reccomended dose per 12hr period. Calc levels are about 480. Alk levels are about mid range between low and normal (it's the red sea color chart test kit - low, normal, and high).
Thoughts? - Help?!?

Please don't talk down to me, these boards are for help right?
Yes.. I have a couple of books, but they aren't very advanced. I prefer to get my information from a wider audience of experienced hobbists - Hence these boards. Thanks for the tip on the calc. This is my first time doing hypo, so I guess I just need to sweat it out.
