I was having a cyano problem in my tank. I tried larger and more water changes.. it helped but only short term. I started to think my standard tap filter wasn't going to be enough and I would need RODI water. I noticed most of the cyano was near the skimmer output.. so I put a sponge on it for 1 day just to see.. the sponge was FILLED with cyano by the next morning!
So over the weekend I broke down and cleaned out the entire skimmer, it had quite a bit of buildup inside the piping. And even more that I could not get to at the bottom of the main chamber! Anyone have a tip for that (corallife super skimmer)?
Anyways, after cleaning it as best as I could.. All the cyano has dissappeared since sunday. It was completely gone by the time I got off work yesterday. That stuff starves out fast huh? LOL!
On a side note.. thank goodness for cyano! If that stuff hadn't been growing my fish and corals would likely have died from the stuff causing it to grow! (luckily it was growing in obscure areas and not choking out any corals)
as a reference I empty the cup every 2-3 days and clean the entire cup and neck every week. This is the second time ive taken the skimmer out of the tank to clean it, but the first time I broke everything down. so every 4-5 months? *shrug*
