I now these buggers help keep the nitrates n the tank down if you place them in a refugium, but I have a trickle filter system with bioballs (I have great results with them in my Koi pond so I stuck with them for my saltwater tank) anyway my question is can I place them in my tank and get the same results. I do not have a nitrate problem, but in case it occurs can they be used in a reef tank? Also what do they eat or are they filter feeders?

You can put them in your display tank if you want or a sump or refu if you want. But then need sand so they can dig them selves up. Yes, they are filter feeders.

make sure you have a farily deep sand bed for them to burrow into.
you'll probably never see them again.
