I got a cleaner shrimp today, i acclimated him to the water for 20 minutes in the bag i brought him home in, netted him outta that bag and put him into my 12 Nano-Cube tank, i have plenty of live rock in there and the tank has been set up (with clowns) for two weeks...well he died fifteen minutes after i put him in there...water tested fine...dunno what happened...any ideas?

Inverts are more sensitive than fish for acclimating.
20 min is not enough. This site shows 2hrs.
Floating the bag will only let it adjust to the temp.
It still needs to adjust to your salinity, ph,etc.
You could do the drip method, or the 1/2 cup method where you scoop your tank water and add it to the bag every 15-20 minutes . When times up scoop him out.
This is for both fish and inverts.
Since it wasn't used to the water it went into shock and died.
I would wait for your tank to finish its cyle to add anymore inverts.
What are your levels at?

you wanna know what's funny, i have never ever bothered to acclimate inverts of any kind. hermits, snails, shrimps, urchins, etc, and not one has ever died. i think you might have just bought a weak specimen.

i think so too...here are the levels in my tank:
Salinity = 1.020
PH =7.0
Alkalinity = normal
Ammonia = 0 to 0.25
Nitrite = 0.05
Nitrate = 0
Phosphate = 0.05
Calcium = 300 ppm

Your pH CAN"T be 7.0??? You sure that is right? If it is, that is a BIG problem.
And that salinity is mighty low for inverts.
It is one thing to not acclimate when your salinity/parameters may be similar to the tank they are from, but if there is a large change however, that is bad. Every tank is different, every LFS keeps things at different levels. It is just more conservative to acclimate.
If those tank parameters are correct, IMO, that shrimp could have been a champ and still died :nope: Something is really wacky.

i agree with ophiura, your pH, salinity, ammonia & nitrites are a little off.
The EXACT same thing happened to me. My cleaner was doing great in the LFS and in the bag while floating. He died like 15-20 mins after putting in tank. My parameters were all good. After that incident i use SWF.com recommendations for acclimation and have never lost anything else like that before. i will never do the 20min float only, again.

If the tank is just cycling, that might cause the low ph level.
I think mine was around 7.5 for a while. Its been a long time.

I got a new cleaner shrimp today...he's doin great! I put in some iodine supplements bc when i took the first one back to the lfs, they said he died while molting. my fish (two wild percula clowns) absolutely love him...thanks everyone for all your help!

If you havent changed anything it will surely die :p
Those skunk cleaners are a REAL pain in the butt. If you dont have 1.023-1.025 salinity when you acclimate them it will cause serious stress to the shrimp and it may not die right away.. but a couple days later.. boom.. its dead. Also when you acclimate this shrimp you should do it at least 2 hours to 4 hours. Even if you acclimate them for 1 minute and throw them in the tank and they swim around.. the next morning or the morning after you will find them dead =c(
I hope you didnt just take the one you got back and get a new one without fixing all your problems :(
