cleaning canister tubing

Hi all. I was wanting to know if anyone out there has come up with a good way to clean the tubes on canister filters. Mine run about 4-5 feet in length and i am trying to figure out a way to clean the inside of them. They are starting to build up and flake off stuff that just ends up back in the tank. Just looking for ideas. Maybe fishing string tied to the little cleaning tool that came with them. Not sure if i could feed the string all the way down through the tube or not. They are on the magnum 350's. Thanks

Most have a tool, as you described, with them. I just tied a string, again, as you described and pulled it through.
Maybe someone has an easier way...

I use to use a fluval canister dilter (years ago), and I found that the easiest way (short of replacing them) to clean the longer hoses, was a regular houshold rolling pin. Just lay them out on the floor, and roll away (not literally). The action of pressing the two sides of the tubing together, along with the pinching action of the rolling pin, will break everything loose inside. Including corline algae. After you think you have it all loose, just flush them out with water (RO or sat water prefered). Try it out, you'll be amazed at how easy it is....HTH
PS. you can use anything firm, and round, if you don't have a rolling pin handy...Good Luck:)

I recently got a EHIEM wet/drywith a entire tank setup in a ---- auction and it came with a bottle brush attached to a very long plastic cord, 3ft or so, just for that purpose, I would tend to think most online retailers would sell these for a couple of bucks HTH
