I have all those little brown diatoms growing in my 55 gal tank with LR. I was wonsdering, can I put a clean up crew in there now, or should I wait until I see some of the green algae show up?

I'm going to sit on the fence on this one. If it were me, and its not, I would get about a half dozen turbos and a couple hermits, maybe an emerald crab, and see how they do. You can then get a full cleanup crew later on. It worked for me anyway.

I take it you are still going through the cycle, if you wait the brown stuff will go away in time. there is two schools of though with putting crabs and snails in while it is cycleing it is up to you. Good Luck
Cerith snails like diatoms. I have three and they are very cool. They even clean below the sand surface and don't have the 'land on thier back and die' problem the big turbos have.
