today as I did my 15 gal water change, I took all my rock out scrubed it with a toothbrush, with my old water. Got as much of the loose alage out as I took water out. Tomorrow I will test water. There is still small amount of alage on rocks will keep eye on how fast it starts to grow. If anyone can throw some tips my way it would be helpful. Also cleaned power heads, turned lights down one hour.

we'll see how the water parameters are after you do the wc with the rocks scrubbed
if you read phosphate levels you may want to add a phospad to your filter
how big is this tank??

phospads remove phosphates
and a 65 probubly needs a bigger CUC
I just ran my test
nitrate was 0
calicum little low
phosphate was 0.1
going to lfs want them to test also.

i'd get some phospads and about 20 more cerith snails
just got back from lfs, I am going to try this combination of products. #1 is phosphate- e. this will break down the phosphate, #2 is a product called rowa it looks like dirt that goes in a sack to assorb the phosphates. tomorrow i will retest to see if any changes show up .

not familiar with either of those products, hopelfully it will work...... and not hurt your tank
still you should get a bigger CUC look at the reef pacakges section on this site and see what they sell as a kit for your size aquarium
like 30 crabs and 20 - 30 snails

we talked about that at the store also, part of the problem we think is I only swithed over to ro/di water in the last couple of months. We think there is still the affect of old water phosphotes still around. Since all rock is scrubed clean we want to see if that is the case. Also talked about getting a lawnmover blenny, also talked about getting a refugium / skimmer once I get some cash

How long have you had this rock? Was the rock ever exposed to high ammonia levels.
most of the rock is 1-2 years in the tank, how do you know if it was exposed to high levels of ammonia?

If it's been in there without any problem for over a year then past high ammonia isn't the problem. I'd continue to pursure the phosphate levels.
The reason I asked about ammonia is because I've seen high quality rock become a hairy algae rock after being cured in a high ammonia environment.

right now I am testing the ro/di I have in trash can that was left from last water change.it looks very close to what I tested dt at. The card that came with test kit is marked like this
yellow 0
green 0.1
darker green 0.2
blue 0.5
dark blue1.0
black 2.0 & above
I am around 0.1 / 0.2 in dt & with water from the ro/di in can

is that a phosphate test? or nitrate's?
either way all test results should be 0.0 with ro/di water
is this water you have already added salt to?
what kind of salt do you use?
is it time to change your ro filter media?
