cleaning LR

Is it ok to take out some of the live rocks in my 46gal tank (85 pounds figi rock) and clean them with a tooth brush in a fresh batch of saltwater. The rock has been in for two months but it's starting to get pretty algae ridden.
Thanks

I would get some critters to clean it for you. Some hermits, emerald or sally lightfoot crabs, snails, a tang, etc.
Cleaing the rock by hand is likely to do more damage than good.

I agree. Dont clean it by hand. Emerald crabs, turbo snails, scarlet and bluelegg hermits, lawnmower blenny, all do a great job. Biggest question has to be, why do you think your having an algea bloom?

Hey,
I wouldn't suggest cleaning lr by hand either. I'd like to know what kind of algae it is. My base rock is finally changing to nice purples and greens!
Take care,
Dan'l :D

before removing the rock and hand cleaning it I'd evaluate the clean-up crew situation.....add one or add to the existing one....also determine the source of the algae problem and cure that.............but I'd try to avoid removing the rock and cleaning it
