Cleaning Protein skimmers

Maybe I'm not looking hard enough but I don't remember getting instructions on cleaning my protein skimmer when I bought it. I'm definitely sure my skimmer needs cleaning but don't know how. .
Any suggestions?
P.S.: what are the levels of "status" for members? (i.e. beth = shark, me = peppermint shrimp )

I have a bottle brush that I use on mine and once or twice a year I'll run some vinegar water through it in the sink to get the stuff the brush misses.

just wanted to mention to not use your bare finger....oils in the skin prevent the junk in the water to stick to the walls o fthe skimmer
