I am scrubing my tank, don't worry not to much. I have had hair algea since before thanksgiving. some of the algea goes in the overflow, and gets stuck in the songe. Which I know is why they call it a filter. Can i take the sponge out and clean it? Or will that mess up the benificia bacteria in my tank? i thought if I cleaned it, that would help bring the nitrates down, and stop the algea.
