Hello -
Through a series of different failures including a failing ballast, over used RO/DI filters, etc my tank has developed some nasty hair algae and red slime. Today, I finally decided to take care of it. I took all of my corals out and put them in a separate tank. Then, I scrubbed all of the algae off of the rock with a brush and put it in a big Rubbermaid tub with saltwater. My plan is to put the rock back in the tank after 3 days. My main tank lights will not come on either to make sure all of the residual algae has died off as well. In addition, I went out and bought 4 emrald crabs, 10 cerith, 10 astrea, and 10 nassarius snails. Here is my question:
1. How long will the coralline survive in the dark tub with no light?
2. A few of the rocks in the tub have mushrooms and zoanthids on them, how long can these survive without light?
3. Any suggestions on my method?
Thanks in advance, I appreciate it.
