what do u guys and gals use to clean the outside of the tank? I am using windex (spraying it on the paper towel then wiping the glass) and it leaves a streak and a haze b/c of the salt residue....got any suggestions?

I didn't care for the film that windex leaves. I was also concerned about the mist of the spary entering my enviorment. :notsure: So, needless to say I only used this method once.
What I do now is use two microfiber rags I originally bought for cleaning my truck. They work like a shammy you would use on your vehical. (Which hold a lot of water I think ten times their weight).. You can pick them up at your local department store. In anycase I use just plain water on one of the towels and the other I leave dry. First wiping the glass with the water and then using the other to wipe the streaks away from the glass. This leaves the glass crystal clear.
So.. Water I guess is the answer to your question. :happyfish
Have fun

Those wipes sound like a good idea-are you sure there are no additives in them. So many products contain oil products.
I use Warm Water only around the tank followed up with paper towels(good ole Bounty)
On the lids, I use vinegar and warm water in the utility sink and a stainless steel blade to scrape off any difficult residue. Every time I walk by my tank, I seem to have a paper towel handy and just give it a quick swipe. ONthe inside, I use the stainless steel scraper, the mag magnets and a special sponge thingamajig.

"Glass Plus" is non-toxic. it's pretty much surfactants(probably soap of some sort) and water. i spray it on the paper towel, not on the glass, and wipe.

I use the Greening the Cleaning glass cleaner that IMUS puts out to make money for his ranch and it works great. Its much safer product than most cleaners and it works great. Give it a try.

This is what I use with RO water and no worries of contamintations
Coralife Buff Tuff is an extra-large reusable 17" x 17" absorbent cloth made with anti-static, lint-free material. Designed for cleaning and polishing glass and acrylic aquariums
You get 2 in a pack and are reusable over and over again. I decided to do this since my aquarium is acrylic. Cost was only $2.79 online
