Climbing Anemone ????

I just got my Heteractis Magnifica from here and it climbed to the top of my tank and is hanging on the top of my overflow. I have never had an anemone do this to me before.

was just on another thread, you commented on plumbing tanks together.
i was thinking about doing that. How is it done? pvc, special pipe or what?
right now i just set up a 125, have a 110, & getting rid of a 55, but will add another bigger one later
?

What is your lighting? What is your flow? Anemones will move to the area that best suites their needs, so if you don't have enough lighting it will move as high as possible trying to get to the light.

Heteractis Magnifica. This is the 2nd largest and most difficult of all species of anemones too have they require at least 175 watts of MH lighting in a shallow tank. They can grow over 3' in diameter. Not saying your not prepared for it but knowing more about your system would help out a lot here, these guys are not easy to keep.

I have it in a 110 tank right now with 2x 250 MH plus the actinic. I have 2 return lines each with 2 nozzles, a vortech mp40 pump and a 2 koralia. I put it in yesterday and by night time it was at the top of the tank. Do I need to upgrade to 400 watt MH? Its actually in the least amount of flow in the tank. By the way what is the largest species? Thanks for the info

It is possible it needs more light, but for now with it being so new to your tank my opinion would be to just observe it for a while. If after a week or 2 it is still roaming around then I would say its time to look into lighting and flow issues.
The largest anemone is Stichodactyla mertensii or Merten's Sea Anemone. They can get well over 3' in diameter and is rarely seen reproducing in captivity.

Thanks for the quick response on this. I just never had an anemone do this before and i was concerned about it. I have a large carpet in my other tank and it stays at the bottom with the same wattage. I'm just not sure why it parked itself where there is hardly any flow. I have one other question for you if you would like to answer. Which is the best clown to host this? I thought I read true Percs were the best.

Thanks for all the info on this
. I moved it over to my 92 corner tank with 2 new 15k 250 watt bulbs and I placed it on the bottom and it looks pretty good. I put it in a higher flow area and it looks pretty healthy
