Ok folks, I've been having an issue with mixing my sw. After a few hrs of mixing either in the garbage can or bucket my water gets milky with a film on top. Thoughts?? Its red sea salt

I believe Red Sea has different instructions.
You are supposed to mix with cold water for no more than 90 minutes.

Bad salt, may have gotten too much moisture or may be old. I haven't ran into that issue with their coral pro salt yet. But you should get some new stuff either way.

It usually mixes clear within 5-10 minutes max.

I tried both reg salt and coral pro. It does mix clear for the first hr. I have heard it takes less time for it to dissolve then other salts. Just seems odd lol

If youre mixing it pretty strong it may be precipitating. Honestly my mixing container pretty much always has saltwater mixing (for days even) and I've never seen it turn cloudy. I've never followed those instructions. I mean it's technically still mixing once it goes into the tank right?

That's what I thought but I figured I'd stay out of it since I don't use Red Sea.

I agree. Idk if its a power head issue or what. Very weird. Just started happening recently too. Last month or so. I use to do the same thing 2quills. Mix a batch and use as needed. Then i mixed up 25gallons went to use it a few days later and it was yucky lol
