Cloudy water during live rock cureing

I just bought some live rock and started curing it in a 20 gallon tank. It has a heater set to 78 and a powerhead blowing over the rock. WIthin a half hour the water became extremely cloudy that I could not see the rock anymore. Is this from an ammonia spike so soon? or What? There is no lighting on the tank.

same thing happened to me. i did lots of water changes and after about 4 days added some rock. no spike in the water so 2 days later i added the rest and all was fine.
