Clown digging for gold?

Why does my tomato clown dig/spray sand all over the front of my aquarium? It literally digs a 2-3 inch bed. But then it looks messed up because there are two 5-6" mounds on either side of the bed it digs.
Anyone else have problem this with clowns or other fish? I have had this fish for three years and it has done it the entire time. Only reason I mention it is because i am updating tank and dont want the front to look like the rocky mountains. He may just stay in the tank he is in.

I would say he is showing off, or showin' someone that he is the boss. Mine is the Queen of the Tank. She think she rules everything in there. She doesn't make a mound but she will "wiggle" just above the sand very, very fast and throws it wherever she wants. Sounds similar to what mine does, throw a fish in there that will show him who's boss. . . .lol

there are bigger fish in the tank that the tomato doesnt even think twice about chasing. It is as if it is showing off though. who knows why they do it.

I have a maroon that's done this in multiple tanks - no anenome. Even seen it move coarse substrate with it's mouth.
I think he's just making his area the way he likes it.
