clown genders

i was thinking about purchasing two false percula clowns for my 20 gallon tank and i wanted a pair. and my question is how can you tell if its a female or a male?

thanks for replying viper and i have another question. are maroon clowns hard to take care of? and if you have any extra info on them can you tell me. thanks and thanks again viper

Initially you wont be able to, they will have to figure it out between themselves. There may be some fighting, but once you see the shimmey (sp) dance it should get better. It will be like Viper stated, but I think the dominate one will remain female, and the other turns male. For maroons, its the same. Not hard to take care of, but I have heard that they get very mean, which could cause issues in your 20 gal. over time. HTH

My two marroons are not kissing up yet, in fact the more dominant one has almost killed the other one. I think it's probably a good idea to make sure you have one smaller than the other. I didn't know this at the time and now I have one in a safety net at the top part of the tank until it's healthy again and if they don't get along still I'm going to have to return him. Right now though he has bites taken out of all of his fins, poor guy.
