Clown Tangs

I saw one at my LFS in a large tank with 5 other tangs. He was eating, and looks VERY healthy. He was about 4-5" long, and only $50.00! SO I am wondering why these fish are so hard to keep, and why nobody has them. Thanks!

I am also wondering about the Green Bird Wrasse. I heard they are very active and fun to watch. Does anyone have one?

The Clown Tang gets big........and mean.......and most dont do well in captivity......The Bird, the same,..... but hardy and NOT reef safe.

I have a Clown Tang and he gets along with everything. In fact he gets very shy sometimes. They do get big (12-15 inches) so he will have to be moved to a bigger tank eventually. I also have a Sailfin and a Powder Blue and they all get along. Of course there are always exceptions.

Yeah, I am looking to buy him for my new 180g. Along with a Powder Blue Tang and a Blonde Naso, a large Angel or 2, and some misc. fish also. I am now wondering, would it be OK to put the Clown in a 55g for 2 months so I can get my 180g up and running smoothly? He is eating and is SUPER healthy. I am also wondering if I could put the Bird Wrasse (5-6") in there as well. But mainly the Clown. Does the Clown need a very mature system? What about the Bird Wrasse? If the Clown needs a very mature system, maybe I will only get the Bird Wrasse for now...

I wouldn't put the Clown and the Wrasse in a 55 together. The tang would easily get stressed in that situation. Also, if you are adding multiple tangs, put the Clown in last. Mine showed extreme aggression towards the Powder Blue at first. I had to save the PB for the first couple of mins. Now they all get along. They're great fish!

Well will the Clown Tang be OK in the 55g for 2-3 months? Plus 1 months of the 3 would be QT with hypo...

A mature tank always helps with anything.
The mature Clown tang is an open water fish that only schools to mate and keeping them long term in any captive system is difficult, from my research. Michael, Fenner, Calfo, and other that are not or working for someone trying to sell you one.
PS, even the 2 Drs. list this fish as Expert only, aggressive, min. 150g and they are trying to sell you one.
SWF.com list them as Care Level: Difficult , Temperament: Bold

Well, I will be getting a 220 now acually. He will basically be in QT and until I get my 220. So do you think the 55g will be OK for 2 months? I know they are difficult, but I am willing and dedicated to take good care of it.

Well... I guess I will re think it. But I am really wondering why they are so hard. I know you said because they school and stuff, but that doesnt really help me.

I<3Fish, would you happen to be looking at this fish at a LFS in Midland, Mi? The price is the same and so is your discription of the tank it's in.
