yes it is ok to put a puffer with a clowntrigger.
i have them together in a 90gal. mine is a porcupine.
they get along well but the puffer gets a little aggressive when feeding.
sometimes the clown cannot get his fair share so i hand feed him and keep the puffer away with a spoon

Short term achievement is not success, unfortunately.
A 90gal tank is not big enough to either of the species and as they grow, so will the Clowns aggressiveness and territorial behavior.
While it is "do-able" to house a species of Trigger with a Puffer, it is not a good idea for that Trigger to be a Clown...not only will you have problems with those fish, but you'll also have problems with any other tankmates.

no disrespect because I know you know your stuff aw2x3 but the porc. puffer is very well armed and yes they will need a bigger tank in the future but depending on the size of both they will be fine for a couple of years. Only thing is all individuals have diff. personality so save that all should be good. the younger the fishes the better the chance they will live in harmony

Well, sure he is...but so are Urchins, which their spines that are MUCH larger than those of Puffers. Even with that, Urchins are a main course on a Triggers menu. There's no defense, that the Puffer has, that'd be able to stand up to an attack from that Clown Trigger.

Definately not true. It may work for a longer period of time, due to the fact that it'll take longer for them to reach maturity but once they hit maturity, all bets are off. It doesn't matter if they've been in the tank for years. They're not gonna be "friends" and tolerate each other.

I would definitely not recommend a clown trigger and a puffer. And frankly I would not recommend a clown trigger for anything less than a 200g minimum - and that is pushing it. The tiny guys may be OK in smaller tanks for awhile, but if you've worked with adult clown triggers you'll know what they need and what they are capable of.

niger, pink tail, crosshatch, blue jaw this should be a workable list.

Your puffer might be well able to hold it's own for now, but slowly over time things change.
Generally triggers will try to de-mobilize prey by biting the tail clean off, and then return to seal the deal. Puffers don't have much protection in that area.
And as intelligent as they are they'll figure out an alternative game plan to subdue prey or a tankmate if they have to. Usually, by going for the unprotected belly of a fish.
Good luck, hope you've got a nice one.

I would avoid the clown with the puffer. I thought about putting a trigger with my puffer in a 125g but decided against it. Puffers are slow moving, triggers are fast moving. Triggers are also unpredictable, I saw a large naso tang housed with a small humu trigger in a 180 at a local fish store. Both seemed happy and fine, two days later the naso was ripped to shreds. The two never should have been housed but were. Im not saying your combo idea wouldnt work for some time, but its a risk. My puffer is 12 inches in length and I am still concerned about mixing him with large damsels because of his slow sluggish speed the damsels could nip at him.
Good Luck.
Also what are your nitrates at ? A 90 is very small for a full grown porc.
