hey Im new to this forum.. and I recently put two False Percula Clown fish in my tank.. how long does it usually take to get past the aggression between the two.. of the two clowns.. the bigger one is constantly backing the smaller off. When feeding or whenever the smaller is near him.. sometimes out of nowhere the bigger of the two will smill across the tank and nip at the smaller.. just wondering how long it usually takes to get past this.. I'm just worried the smaller will always get picked on.
thanks

It can take a few weeks to a month or two. Don't worry, she (the larger one) won't beat up the smaller one (male) too much. As for being picked on, the male is going to be picked on to some degree for the rest of their lives.....it's just how it is. They have been doing it this way for thousands of years so it is normal. He will soon learn his place and things will settle down a bit in time. Until then, just enjoy the show!

We females are a pain, are we not? It took my clowns about a month to realize the other wasn't going anywhere. The male is put in his place daily but they go right back to being buds after he stops pouting. :happyfish

My larger Clown (Buffy) keeps nipping towards her mate (Riley). She never actually physically touches him, just darts in his direction as if to intimidate him. Usually he just ignores her. Most of the time, though, they just hang out together.

I'm a little late on this thread, but I was wondering the same thing about my two cinnamon clowns. The bigger one is not acting as aggressively toward the smaller clown...in fact, the larger clown is dividing her(?) time between the bta and the 1/3 tank territory she 'allows'(giggle) him(?) to occupy. She at first only allowed him 1/16 of the tank...his space has grown to 1/3 of the tank. Can I assume she is starting to accept him? Will she ever allow him to visit the bta?

Sounds like they are pairing up. As for sharing the BTA, maybe. Perhaps you should give her a tiny note that says "does not share well with others".

Oddly enough she allowed the white porcelain crab to move into with the bta!! The clown tried her best to bump the crab out, but no luck. I was thinking about getting another bta or trying my hand at forcing the bta to split (heavy feeding for a few weeks than perform a 50% water change...I don't know if this works; I just read that it did). Maybe she would share a new bta with him?
