Clownfish Suicide!

I went to feed the fish today...and noticed one of my clownfish was missing....puzzled by this I started scouting around the tank....thinking he had died....no sign of him by the top, filter, or at the bottom....so I looked in the filter.....not so much....then as I remembered reading about "jumpers" I looked behind the tank....sure enough...there he was....this is very puzzling to me...I read this in another thread and could not believe this happened to me! I also read that it's extremely un-common for a clownfish to jump...unless something is wrong with the tank....parameters are all fine....This is heartbreaking because I got a juvi-clown about a week ago and them two were in-seperable...the little guy squeaked out about a 1/2 inch opening....does anyone have any thoughts on this? I'm completely puzzled by it...why would that happen?

Oh...I also want to add that my remaining clown is always at the top of the tank swimming in the current....that was the case with the other clown also (while I had him).....is it possible I have too much flow? I have about a 15x turnover rate....which I thought was about average....I am thinking about getting another clown...(same store/same tank) so that my juvi isn't alone...but I don't want to add another especially after one has jumped.....ANYONE at all have ANY insight for me?

good luck with mixing clowns that aren't mated pairs. I just lost a clown from the other clown killing him. I hear this is quite common.
I had a moroon clown that jumped out of his tank about 2 months ago. He was kind of sick - but the water was in excellent condition.

I too lost my beloved clown Sunday .There was a small opening around my heater, somehow he managed to jump through that small space. I immediately went out and bought bridal netting and all is secure.I have tried to research and not purchase known jumpers. Live and sadly learn.

R.I.P. to the jumping clowns ha ha....it's sad....don't quite know what could have gone wrong....he was a "saved" fish though....I tried to rescue him from a friend of mines cycling tank....it had been through a lot of stress.....high levels of ammonia followed by high levels of trites.....plus capture, netting, transporting him from friends tank to mine.....I did what I could though...
So now I'll have to go back to the LFS where I got both clowns....they have a tank full of tank raised percs....I'll get my little guy a new buddy to swim around with.....
thanks!

If you have an open top tank and fish that are jumpers I recommend you use black egg crate to cover the tank top. Keeps the fish in and the cats out!
