clowns and coral beauty

my 55 is done cycling and i had planned on a yellow tang or a powder blue but all i have read has said that a 55 is not big enough so then i was thinking would a 55 gal be big enough for a coral beauty and like 4-6 clowns .. what do ya all think.. thanks ;)

i can't see putting that many clowns together without alot of stress to one another (ick waiting to happen)maybe 2. i would also wait on the tang because they need alot of algea to feed on and they are susceptibe to ick and may require more established surroundings.

I'M SORRY I SHOULD OF READ A LITTLE BETTER. I BELIEVE YOU CAN STILL PUT A TANG IN BUT IT WILL NEED TO COME OUT IN THE FUTURE.DEPENDING ON HOW MANY FISH YOU HAVE IN YOU TANK IS WHAT WILL DETERMINE THAT.YOU CAN PROBABLY ENJOY ONE FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS ANYWAY. I HAVE A CORAL BEAUTY AND IT IS AN AWSOME SPECIMEN.THEY CAN GET TERRITORIAL THOUGH. <img src="graemlins//urrr.gif" border="0" alt="[urrr]" />

i would not go with that many clowns, but if you do add them at the same time and only after you are well established that way your system has a better chance of adapting and going in together can often diminish the aggression. You have alot of choices though.
Good Luck

The tang issue has been hammered to death...most say a 55 is too small....but I keep a yellow in my 55 fish only(been there over a year) and it is fine....never a problem at all...but someday he may become too large...as for the powder blue...personally I'd stay away from that one...very difficult to keep even in larger systems(major ick issues). The coral beauty would be a very nice addition and mine does well in my reef with his best buddy(my tomato clown)...but I'd wait to add one...they prefer a mature/stable system and like to graze constantly. The clowns would be a problem adding that many...especially if they were of different types. Personally I'd stay with one type...and no more than 2....even then they may be extremely aggressive towards each other at first.

Hi,
If you wanted to get a lot of small fish for your tank, I would suggest getting a small school of green chromis. I was never too taken with them before, but I have two of them in my 55 with a false perc clown and a recently added coral beauty and the tank is great.
The green chromis are super laid back and swim/school all over your tank. I never thought they were too much to look at compared to other fish, but after having some, I have a hard time seeing me having my tank without a few of them. My two green's follow my clown around too, like he's in their school. The coral beauty just ignores them all and eats his algae. :)
Green Chromis do seem to grow fast too. We bought 2 really small ones two weeks ago, and they have more than doubled in size already! Anyway, good luck with your setup!
