Clowns are fighting

For the past week my one clown(bigger one) has been beating up on the other. They have been in tank together for 2 years..the larger has been in tank for 3 years, the smaller for 2. The smaller one has resorted to hiding, i have 3 anemones in the tank so they aren't fighting over one. Have tried turning out the lights for 24 hrs but that didn't work. I am starting to see the effects of it on the smaller one(its flippers are getting tore up. Any one have any other ideas? It is a 54 gallon corner tank and just has the 2 clowns and a blue hippo. It seems the hippo and the large clown are now best buds, where the two clowns use to be. I added the hippo about 4 months ago

Wow, I have the exact problem! I had one small clown for about a week, then added the second one after. The second one was bigger than the first once. They were together all the time, then the second clown got aggressive and the first one did the submissive dance. SO i assumed they became a pair. I then added a tiny hippo, and now whenever I come near the tank, the second clown attacks and chases the first clown around. The new clown and hippo are together for the most part. So i don't know what to do. The clowns have probably been together for about 2-3 months but now the older one just hides all the time. The older one just stays in the corner away from the newer clown. So I'm rocking the same boat as you and don't know what to do

I have 3 Picasso clowns in total. 2 in the main tank, and one in a separate tank. I'm to the point where I think I should just take the older one thats getting beat uo and switch it with the one I have separated. Maybe it'll work?

The only thing I can think of is that they both were males all the time and now the bigger one has turned into a female and has reject the male as a mate. Or they are going through a bad divorce. You need to remove the small one or she will kill it.
