clowns fighting

I have had a pair of tomato clowns and a pair of clark clowns in a 55gal. for almost a year without issue.
Now, in a matter of days the tomatos have ganged up and killed one of the clarks, and are terrorizing the other clark.
My question is, what would make them cohabitate for such a long time then one day turn on one another?

I don't think anyone can tell you their motives. Maybe one stole the others newspaper. Probably has something to do with spawning. Hopefully you can find another home for the lone clark.

This is why it is not wise to mix clowns . People try it and works for a few months and think they beat the odds and succeeded . Once the clowns reach adulthood this is what happens , especially when there is different species in the same tank . But some obviously want to learn the hard way . The two species get very territorial as they reach adulthood and especially if any of hem are hosting something .
