clowns killed the anemone

i have two percula clowns and had 1 green carpet anemone ... well i woke up this morn to find it dead..i did notice.. that 1 of them would always be on it and the 2 would constantly be fighting while the one was on it .. often nipping the anemone ...... i also noticed that the anemone would close up and move .. often getting scraped on a rock in the process...then and this is the groww part .. this morning i woke up and they looked like they were eating it .. i took it out and it looked like it was almost split in half... is this something that should have happened .. do clowns often fight this much ...any clues would be greatly appreciated .. :(

actually it is plausible that the clowns killed it; anemone/clown relationship is not always natural symbios; in the wild, only certain clownfish/anemone go naturally together; some anemones do not naturally have any symbiotic relationship w/ any clownfish; only sometimes do anemones benefit from hosting clownfish; sometimes clownfish can be too agressive in this relationship by overally aggitating/stressing he anemone by over grooming it or disputes over territory; most anemone or hit/miss; beneficial bonding w/ clownfish is less than that; 1 more thing for an anemoneto be possibly stressed over
