Yes but there are other just as effective ways without putting live fish through the cycle.
Raw shrimp with live sand ( or some live rock ) is a known method to cycle a tank, without harming live creatures, and risking their deaths.
Imagine being lifted up from your home, placed in a strange new room with different surroundings, eating food that is given to you from something above, each day being forced to sit in your own urine and feces - while the air you breathe continues to become more and more toxic, burning at your eyes, skin and lungs, wondering if things will get ever get better. It would have to be stressful.
You may very well live through it for a couple few weeks - but not a very pleasant experience I'm sure.
Raw shrimp IMO is a better way.
