What process do you use to choose what kind and how many of each to put in a tank is there some literature about this for a 90 gallon tank. AllI know is what I have seen advertised on swf. :notsure:
Will some be harmfull to other items in the tank ie. corals, fish etc. etc.

Well, just search on the net mainly. Look at the different kind of inverts you can get.
For snails, you want things that eat algae and airate the sand and clean the glass.
Crabs that are good algae eaters that dont kill your snails (blue-legged hermits do)
and of course the shrimp and starfish you might want...
The sites should also tell you how many you need per gallon or whatever.

cc stars eat snails and bother corals and such.
cbs eat other shrimp and don't always play well with others.
get Marine Invertebrates, by Ronald L. Shimek. It's great, over 500 essentail inverts and great info about them.

We got a Coral Banded Shrimp as part of a "package" deal from a website. He is VERY territorial & has claimed one corner rock in our 100gal tank as "his". In his little corner is litteraly a graveyard of shells, claws, etc. He is NOT that big, and the crabs he's eating (Porcelain, Emarld, and a mystery crab with bright purple claws that we did not put in the tank!) are bigger than he is. But all the "parts" are in his little lair area, so I'm assuming he's eating things in the tank..
but so far, so good with our other shrimp & the CBS

niether of our cbs's bothered hermits or crabs. This one is much less aggressive than that last one, this one will eat out of my hand.
I'm more worried about the arrow crab...I've caught him pinching my serpent star...
