How To (with Visual Aids):
You Will Need The Following:
1 Dual Light Blue Cold Cathode Kit $15
Available most any computer supply website/store.
2 Wire Cutters/Strippers $??
Very easy to find
3 Two Wire Nuts $??
May come with the wire cutters
4 12 volt Power Supply Brick with "correct"
amperage $ 10 to 20
In two words Radio Shack or you may have an extra lying around.

Cut power connections off the kit and off the power brick.

Attach positive to positive, negative to negative with wire nuts.

Attach lights to tank using the adhesive pads that come with the kit. Place on the back of tank or any other spot that is safe from splashing water and the heat from the lights.
Beautiful Blue moon light that plugs in and has a switch to turn on and off.
Cold cathode kits are also cheap.
Considerations:
Make sure the power brick has enough amps
to supply the lights.
Lights are heat sensitive
and the kit power inverter is not water resistant
.
Give thought to soldering and heat shrink wrapping the connections. Bagging the power inverter and twist tying the ends shut may water proof the setup. You may also need to plug the ends of the lights where the wires go in depending on the kit. Thought about using hot glue to seal the ends.
Bigest consideration is these are cold cathode lights they are heat resistant. So don't put them near the normal lights. It will burn up the connections.

couple questions and comments b/c i've thought about this stuff as well.
1. what would be the point of LED fans in you hood?
2. Use old cheap power supply to power the cathodes, dont need to buy a power pack, and you can
plug quite a bit of other computer stuff into it, no sodering or wire cutting/crimping. Also provides a good
source for power for attaching any more PC fans into your hood.
3. How well do cathodes actually look on your tank?
4. Is there a point in moon lighthing?
5. Do cathodes acting as moon lighthing help your tank out in any way?
thanks

The benefits of moonlight depend on your system.
1. what would be the point of LED fans in you hood?
Same as normal fans except the would look cooler plus the benes of moonlight.

Power brick can be used as stated above. Old power bricks as stated above can be used so long is it meets the amperage needs of the lights.
3. How well do cathodes actually look on your tank?
Kind of like this.
Edit: I had non and I did say kind of like this. Sorry foxthorn. But it does look alot like that I so need a camera to post pics of my own.
4. Is there a point in moon lighthing?
So you can see things in a nocturnal setting.
5. Do cathodes acting as moon lighthing help your tank out in any way?
Moonlight has been shown to beneficial to certain fish species in reducing stress and helping in aquaculturing the fish.
thanks

No thank you

that's what i'm trying to figure out. Don't know if the answer will ever be answered with
cathodes either. This would be an easy mod for me to do but im not going to do it if it doesnt reflect
real moonlight. I would think that it only causes blue light in the tank and disturbss the fish's sleeping.

Looking, I know it comes out as a blue white light. Mostly finding lumens not wavelength. They appear to be brighter than led and last longer. Input of 210 milliamps. That's helpful. Sorry can't find an exact but it is in th 430 -500 nm wavelength range. Basic Blue. I will keep looking. They even make Blue Neon tube Kits as well for a reasonable price. Wow they even make them as a row of led lights as well.
