Cold Weather

So guys I just got this 125 gallon tank going to pick it up tomorrow, only one issue, with my first child due in a few weeks there's no way I want to take on the project of getting this tank ready for a few months, so the only place I can put it is in the garage, with the tank completely dry and empty do think there is any way that the cold weather will crack the glass, here in South Dakota I'm sure were going to have some more -10 to -20 degree days before this winter is over. Whats everyone's thoughts?

Filling it with water and placing two or three heaters in it might work. I say two or three heaters because I wouldn't want to over work them. This might not be the best idea but you do run the risk of the glass breaking leaving it dry.

It wont break the glass. I live it sunny florida so i am not expert. But if the cold dont break the glass windows on your house. Why would it break the glass on a tank

I respectfully disagree he would have to heat the water above freezing. And if he losses power or his heaters fall the sudden drop from 33 degrees to minus 20 very dangerous IMO the only thing to be careful of is the glass will become somewhat brittle though so be careful about hitting it or moving it

I was just thinking that.
Florida Joe - When Kube is ready to use the tank won't their be a rapid temp change? Sitting in a garage that is 10 Deg and going into a house that is kept at 70 deg.

If you put in hot water into a tank that has been at -20 you will break the glass. but if you bring it inside and let it slowly warm up due to inside air temps then you should not have a problem

Kubs also said that the tank would be in the garage for a few months hopefully after the dead of winter

It won't be a problem, I have had a 125g tank in storage for 3 years and we have had some days that have been well into the sub zero temps -27 I know for sure last year. The only thing I am concerned about with my tank is the silicone but it all needs to be cut and resealed anyway so I'm not really out anything. With your tank only sitting for a few months I don't think it will be an issue.
