Collecting corals off Virginia Coast~We're taking a road trip that takes us right past the Norfolk Beach. Is there any good areas to go snorkeling there? Not sure if there would be anything to see or not.

the United States Code of
Federal Regulations for the states:
No person shall cut, carve, injure, mutilate, remove,
displace, or break off any underwater growth or
formation. Nor shall any person dig in the bottom, or in
any other way injure or impair the natural beauty of the
underwater scene. No rope, wire, or other
contrivance...shall be attached to any coral, rock, or
other underwater formation....No watchcraft shall be
operated in such a manner, nor shall anchors or any other
mooring device be cast or dragged or placed, so as to
strike or otherwise cause damage to any underwater
features.
so collecting is out of the question

Are there any corals off the coast of Va anyway? I wouldn't think so.

there are always some sort of corals off almost every coast but most of the ones in the US are coldwater species that wouldnt last in the tropical tanks that we keep. There arent what you would call REEFs but in some areas but there are little pockets of corals here and there.

I think from what I read maybe at the Va Aquarium when I went to Virginia Beach. It said the reefs died about 3.5-5 million years ago.

Even if you were to do it Illegally. It will be worthless.. It won't survive in the average tank..All corals that we keep come or were originated from the tropics which has an average of 80-85 temp..
