Colorful friendly fish!

I need a few colorful friendly, reef safe fish.
The Dwarf lion hides all day, as does the coral banded shrimp and the green goby (except to eat) The fire fish is in a corner when it's not hiding, the dottyback seems to hang behind all the rock since I got the blue tang and 2 clowns, the only ones who swim around out front. Any ideas welcome. Thanks (75 gal. tank)

A 75g is much too small for a blue tang, they need a 100g minimum size tank. They are very, very active swimmers, and that's why all of the more timid fish are hiding. Remove the tang, and go get yourself a couple of blue reef chromis or a dwarf angelfish. I don't know a thing about dwarf lions. Coral banded shrimps are evil, they hide in the rocks, and emerge at night. I have read of them killing small fish, and they also kill other shrimps...a cleaner shrimp or some peppermints would be a better choice....but I think lion fish eat shrimps.
Get these books and I'm including an example page of each. They are so helpful and will save you lots of money and heartaches.

Thanks, the one books on it's way. Will order the other next. I was suspicious of the shrimp but my supplier says "no, or he doubts it". Wendy

A very active drop dead colorful fish...the dwarf angels. They go in and out of the rock all day long. Everyone of them have beautiful eye popping color. My personal favorite is the lemon Peel, it has a bright, bright yellow body, with electric baby blue around the eyes, gills and on the edges of the fins. The only sad thing about them is that in a 75g, you can only keep one. An added plus is that they nip algae off the rocks, and hair algae is a favorite treat to them. You will have to keep an eye on it, some are fine with corals and some are little nippers. If you get a nipper, they seem to like to nibble puffy corals like the LPS fox coral, or candy cane. Soft corals are usually left alone....but every fish is different, I had a Hippo tang that feasted on my Xenia, the store owner didn't believe me until he took it back and saw it for himself that I was telling the truth. He told me that was a personal first, and he had been in the hobby 40 years.
The blue tang is unsuitable for your size tank, but the Blue reef chromis have that same pretty blue with black stripes, and it shimmers in the light. They stay around 3 to 4 inches when mature, so they won't outgrow your tank. They are active and always swimming about, and you can have more then one.
I would replace the coral banded with a cleaner shrimp or two, and a few peppermints ... they will do great in a 75. Peps are great for eating aptasia, and cleaner shrimp make sure the fish are clear of parasites like ich. The added bonus with keeping some shrimps is that they will eat all uneaten food that the fish miss.

Funny, mine too. I was just asking my suppier about a lemon peel cuz I LOVED the one I had before. But. . . as I read, it's not reef safe. Thanks for the ideas! Wendy

Maybe the solution is "dwarf" I'll look it up. Yeah, this shrimp is already almost 4 inches. Too big for my tank.

I had a coral band, and he DID eat fish. He trapped my six line wrasse and pinched him. He didn't eat him, but the wrasse died.

Hi,
We had 5 people on this site at the same time with Lemon Peel dwarf angelfish. 4 didn't bother coral at all, and 1 did. They have their own personality, it's up to you to decide of you want to try to keep one. The books do indeed say they may nip coral. It's a crap shoot, but it looks like most are just fine.

I had a coral banded shrimp for years and it never caused problems. It had its own lair and nothin went in to hang out. It lived for four years in a 55 gallon years back. It was in with a clown, yellow tang (I know), watchman, porcupine, three convicts (evil they don't die), two blue damsels, coral beauty, stars, serpents, snails, hermits, etc. I think they are just territorial as are others and if you feed them they will eat the easy food.
