Ok, so my colt coral has been melting slowely for about three plus weeks. All the zoos green star etc xenia all are doing fine and flourashing but the colt is droopy. It perks up a bit but at night it starts getting black spots on it then during the day they go away for awhile then come back again.
Anything I can do to help it ?

increase flow.

leathers need good flow, this assists in shedding. if they dont shed properly a couple things can happen, the protozoans that normally consume the slime can infect the coral, if the slime isnt shed properly it also smothers the coral and its polyps cant extend properly.

Well, it started coming off in clumps off the end of one of the branches looked like snot so I tossed it into the front yard somewhere..

Dnt toss it in the front yard. An animal or kid get to it and that'd be bad!
But good thing at taking it out. I had a colt that died overnight and when I woke up the tank was a cloudy mess and it had killed a lot of other corals

I live out in the woods only kid around here is mine and his friends and my son knows where it is. I should say it is across the road in a field. I went and looked at it and it is almost all the way gone now.

colts do this for some reason without any real reason behind it. when it starts the best thing is to frag out any good tissue and todd the melting tissue with about 1/2 inch or so of good tissue surrounding the area.
some say its some type of bacterial infection others say its a chemical warefare issue and others dont have a clue or idea.
I lost my huge show size colt to this a few years back.
