Sometimes you can massauge them off they rock by rubbing the base with your thumb, but generally its easiest to simply use a razor blade and cut the base stalk, place a pool of superglue gel on the cut stalk, and twist the base as you place it in the new location. If the first site is truly unsuitable, the remnants of the base will simply die off, and the coral should do fine in its new location. If it survives, you will end up with two colt corals instead of one.
