Hello all, I'd appreciate any help you could lend here as I'm a newbie at the marine aquarium. I've always admired a good aquarium and so I've always wanted to try my hand at one. I'm in the process of doing my research for the equipment and such and thought that I should plan my equipment around the fish I'd like to get. Of course, a favorite of most people is a lion fish. I'd like to have a second fish in with it though, and have always had an interest in triggers too... they are just so unique and odd looking. In the stuff I've read so far here I find that triggers are tempermental and lions eat anything they can fit their wide mouths around. However, I've also read that the temperment of Bluechin Trigger (Xanthichtys auromarginatus) is one of the best and most docile. The lion would be a Russlell's (Pterois russelli) and I'd like to get a 75 to 100 gallon tank -- to try and ensure that both fish have ample room. Also I've read that these fish will eat inverts, does that include cleaner snails? Or is there something else I can put in to help manage the micro/macro alge? And are these fish reef safe? I've read something about lions don't like the bright lights required for a reef tank?
So, should those two fish be compatiable? Should the trigger be added second? Are they snail friendly? Are they reef safe?
Any help or personal experience would be greatly appreciated! thanks in advance!
