Coming out of a piece of rock

I got this rock when i started my tank because i thought the dead stuff (zoos?) would look neat when covered with coraline because of the texture. Well, my wife noticed these little white stings coming out from a place on the front of the rock. I have kept an eye on it and they appear to be growing at a pretty good rate. They almost appear to be growing in pairs. Anny ideas or suggestions would be most appreciated.

I don't know what to call them. They are worms that send out a little string to try and catch food. If you get rid of the little string it comes right back in a few hours.
They are harmless, but I didn't like them. They get on everything and just look bad.
I save the skeletons of coral for the same reason you do. I think they are pretty when they turn purple.

Thanks guys. I did some looking and am I correct in thinking these are all not a problem for a reef tank unless they become an eyesore?
