I started my tank as a saltwater fish tank, but now I want to convert to a simple reef tank. If I want corals soft/hard and keep a high level of invertabrates, what is absolutely necessary to do so? I have a 2 inch sand bed, and I have found that if I want to get all the equipment that saltwaterfish.com says is needed in their hobbyist section, it would cost me well over $3,000. Is a sump crucial? Do I need blue lights or a 50/50 for a 35 gallon tank? I read the post that referred to people and how the have screwed up their tanks, and this guy said he had one of those sticky thermometers. Well, I do too, but I have seen any other ones available, are there other options, other than the digital ones? I want to go about it the cheapest way possible, but at the same time, I don't want to be missing any vital equipment. My polyps seem to do better after a water change. Also What kind of testers do you need to test phosphates,
alkalinity, calcium, and copper. If you can help with any one of these questions, please do. I am confused, so if any of you are having great luck with your reef tanks, could you please just tell me what equipment you are using? thanks a bunch. <img src="graemlins//confused.gif" border="0" alt="[confused]" />
