Computer short cut help needed

On my laptop, using XP, I have some shortcuts on the bottom right next to the start menu. Somehow I lost the show desktop icon and I can't seem to figure it out. I use the button frequently. Anybody know how I can put a desktop shortcut button on my desktop so I can drag it down into that shortcut menu?

right click on the tool bar.
go to tool bars
click on "quick launch"

I already have quick launch check. I still have other icons in there, I just seem to have lost the desktop shortcut icon specifically.

Unlock the task bar and drag the right bar to the right until it disappears. If you didn't delete it. It should still be there, just hidden.
