concrete rock

I just bought a used 120 gallon tank. The guy gave me about 40 lbs of crushed oyster shell/concrete rock. After seeing how cheap it was and the nice pieces that he made I am deffinately going to make some of my own and build up my 125 more. The rock was large and really looked nice. He had some in his reef tank and you could not really even tell that is was different than the stuff he payed 5 bucks a pound for.
For a new hobbiest I would say that 10 cents apound sure beats 5 bucks a pound

I have made a couple of differnet batchs - I used CC and portland cement and argonite sand to make the rocks. What I have in my 20 is getting algea and coraline covered.
Do a search on the net for aragocrete - it is fun to make and it helps save the life of rocks on the reefs of the world! Just know that you have to cure it for several weeks in FW. you can add ammonia to speed up the curing - but I cured mine in FW for 4 weeks - then SW for 2 weeks and tested the SW before adding it to the tank to make sure the PH was not effected negatively
