confused about sand

Finally got my 55 gal cycled. Added snails & crabs yesterday (very excited to actually have something that moves in the tank!!) The only thing on the bottom of the tank is LR rubble. I'd like to add some sand, but I have questions before I do. Do I need to add LS, or will the LR rubble "convert" reg. sand to LS? Will there be another ammonia spike? If so, how long will I have to let it cycle again? Do I need to move my LR, or can I just push the sand up to the LR? Thanks for any advice you have....groucheux

IMO you can add live sand right to your tank. Shouldn't be a problem w/ammonia spike. Careful not to cover up your critters. Actually it's better to add sand after your rock is inplace to allow breathing room under the rock. Live sand is great. Don't think the LR rubble will do the trick.
